School Policies

The school day is from 8:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. Monday through Friday.

There is a 12:30 P.M. dismissal on the first Wednesday of each month for faculty meetings. There may also be other early dismissal days

before holidays or special events. These are indicated on the monthly calendar.

Policy on Attendance

If your child is absent during the school year, the school office should be informed by 8:30 a.m. Upon returning to school, each student is required to bring a written note to the homeroom teacher on a standardized form provided by the school.

All requests for homework assignments and books should be made before 9 a.m. and picked up at theend of the day. Every effort should be made to obtain missed work daily.

Policy on Tardiness

School begins at 8:00 a.m. Students who are late must report to the office. Late slips are issued at this time. Tardiness is recorded on report cards and on permanent records.

Early Dismissal

As a rule, medical appointments should be made after school hours or on days off. If it is absolutely necessary for a child to leave early, a note must be sent to the classroom teacher the day of the appointment. This, then, is forwarded to the office. Every child leaving the building at any time, must report to the office and be signed out. Children may never be dismissed without an adult to sign them out and accompany them out of the building.

Emergency Closing

Unscheduled closing of school, because of inclement weather, will be announced on WCTC 1450 AM radio station beginning at 6:00 a.m. In the event of a DELAYED OPENING, school begins at 10:00 a.m. – buses start two hours after regularly scheduled time. In case of an emergency closing while school is in session, calls are made to notify parents and buses do operate. St. Helena’s also has a mass notification system to contact parents at up to three different phone numbers. Please make sure your Honeywell information is up to date.
