WHAT’S IN YOUR BAG?
You have a “Family bag” reflective of the Bishop’s dedication of the Diocese of Metuchen to Our Lady of Guadalupe last year.
In your family bag, you will find a Rosary kit (October), a poster about the Liturgical Year (do this in November) , an “Advent Calendar,” (for December) and, a book that is a collection of prayers (all year), and your STUDENT TEXTS!
THIS YEAR
There will be NO CLASSES, in-person or virtual, THIS YEAR.
You, as the parent, are to teach your child the curriculum AT HOME.
A website has been set up for you. You must follow the website’s curriculum. Your child/ren will be responsible for all the work outlined at their grade level.
THE WEBSITE
www.sthelenaedison.org/religious-ed
On the NEW RELIGIOUS EDUCATION website, designed by Mrs. Cullinan, each grade is outlined for the parent including Kindergarten.
There is a section of “Prayers to Know.” All prayers may be found in the students text, either on the front cover or in the rear of the book.
The section “Lesson Plans for Parents” outlines a word by word guide for parents to use when teaching their children. It’s made for this.
The chapters/units listed MUST BE DONE. Study Guides should be reviewed.
How will the office know that you are doing your job? The “Interactive Chapter Review” for Grades 1, 3, 4, 5 have a place to enter an email address in order to send the assessment to the director. That email address that you send to is: MCullinan@sthelenaedison.org. I have a file in my computer for each student. If work is not completed, the student will not continue to the next grade level next year.
Grades 6/7 have a physical workbook (pages are listed online) which must be completed and returned to Mrs. Cullinan by April 21st, 2021. There are mobiles that must be done. Pictures of these will be accepted at the above email. I appreciate creativity.
Grade 2: All Reconciliation work must be completed by the beginning of February for the reception of the Sacrament. Date TBA. Watch the website. All Eucharist work must be completed by April 21st in order to be fully prepared for the Reception of the Eucharist on May 1st. Times: TBA. Watch the website.
Grade 8: Chapter reviews (in the book), Saint Project and Sponsor information must be in the office by April 21st, 2021.
NOW, LET’S TALK MASS
The first precept of the Church: Attend Mass on all Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation.
As a Catholic, you are required to attend Mass on a weekly basis. Today, you have no excuse for missing Mass. Mass is live-streamed every week and even happens in the parking lot! I realize that these conditions are not ideal, but we need to make concerted efforts to attend Mass. Go to Church. Read the bulletin.
LET’S TALK SERVICE
Students are expected to participate in community outreach by completing age-appropriate service projects. This year, in OCTOBER, we are sending home Rosary kits to each family. We ask that, as a family, you create the Rosary and pray the Rosary, for people/intentions in our community. In the Sunday bulletin, there are a number of people listed for whom you might pray; also, we could pray for our own families, first responders, medical personnel, people who are experiencing natural disasters, etc. Prayer is a great service to give to others.
Additional Information:
Grades K, 1, 3, 4, 5 will be using Loyola Press "Christ Our Life" Series.
Grades 2 and 8 will be using the Loyola Press Sacrament series.
Grades 6 and 7 will be using "The Catholic Children's Bible" and "Activity Book" from St. Mary's Press.
Be safe, be healthy, be blessed!
